Is the Facebook Login the Future of Personalization?

I recently wrote a post on the Facebook login widget that Facebook offers to websites. This tool is incredible. Add this to your website and people will be able to login using their Facebook login information. When they login Facebook will then push you all of that persons data! You can do whatever you want with that data. You can use it to fill out a form or even deliver them a custom webpage.

You can construct this custom webpage based on their likes, activities, interests, location, etc. It’s a really cool new idea. I recommend you read more about the potential of the Facebook login button here.

Google +1s Helping YouTube Video Optimization

Recently it became clear that Google +1s are helping YouTube video optimization. This is a huge deal. Google is making a massive push with Google + Your World and this is a new and important element of the puzzle.

I actually think it is very cool, much better than using simple backlinks with anchor text to determine rankings. Anyways, this is just a quick blurb to make you aware of the update. If someone in your network +1s a video and you visit YouTube while logged in you will see the video on the home page of YouTube. Think of the video marketing implications! Huge Google Updates Make site More Social

The recent update to Google has changed the name of the search engine optimization game. I mean really, it has implications for online reputation management, social media marketing, SEO, etc. I recently wrote about the effects it will have on online reputation management on search engine land. Basically, you can use Google + business pages to gain more branded search space. But the biggest thing to go down is the Google Search Plus your World Update. People are calling this the biggest update Google has ever done. I agree, but it really only has an effect when you are logged in. Basically, it is more prone to show information, profiles and pages from Google + than it was before. Also, you can filter just by personal results. Give it a try, you will be surprised what pops up.

What do you think about the new Google update?

Google Freshness Update Means BIG News for Publishers

Wow, I almost forgot that I have this website entirely. That being said, it doesn’t negate the BIG news Google released today regarding their latest update. People are calling it the Google Fresher Update as of now. Basically, Google is whiping out stale results for queries that demand fresher content. For example, say I search for SDSU basketball. Now they will give me the lates results for this search, not old posts that have a ton of backlinks. Anyways, if you do search engine optimization or social media marketing this is going to be really important to you. I suggest you read my blog on the subject on SEO Inc. Here is the link. Thank you for stopping by www.johnelincoln.com, clearly the most active site on the internet!

Best,

John

Google + : Information you Should Know

Google + hit the Internet marketing community like a firestorm. People do not know what to make of it. Should they sign up, should they ignore it? In a recent post I strongly disagree with the latter approach. Google is making the Google + project a centerpiece of their product offerings. Furthermore, over 10 million people have already signed up and 2.2 million people are signing up each day. At this rate, it just may be the fastest growing social media network of all time.

While this is the case, please do not think I am a Google + project maven. I simply want to evaluate the new medium and the possibilities it provides. I took a long hard look at why the Google + project is important to internet marketing in a recent post. You can find this on the SEO Inc. search engine optimization company website.

Google Shows Twitter Results in Search

I just wrote a new post for SEO Inc. on the new integration of social media shares in Google results. Here is an excerpt.

Tweets just became more important to lead generation and conversions! Yep, I said it. Now let me tell you why.

Google is now intermixing social media share data with search results. This change will allow searchers to see what content their friends have shared surrounding specific search queries.

Why Feedburner Could be Hurting your SEO Strategy

I wrote a post for Search Engine Land recently titled, “Why Feedburner is Killing your SEO Strategy.” The purpose of the post was to reveal RSS syndication link building techniques and ensure that when engaged in this people use best practices for Feedburner optimization. Feedburner does 301 redirect their URLs, which is nice, but you also have the option to disable Feedburner from converting the URL’s of your blog post to Feedburner style URLs. This to me is still the better option. Why have a 301 if you don’t have to? You also have the option of designating certain RSS feeds for Feedburner use and others for simple syndication use.

Ultimately, it is my belief that some RSS feeds should be intended for subscription based users while others should be intended for syndication. I know many people have not dabbled in this field as much as I have, so I apologize for not going into this more in-depth. This is an SEO strategy which is under the radar and is not widely discussed. And it is not black-hat, it’s simply smart, a great way to maximize your efforts and results in rankings. Anyway, feel free to read the latest posts:

Why Feedburner is Killing your SEO Strategy

Have a great day everyone! And thanks again for all the amazing comments on the SEL post. I thought it was an excellent discussion.

Google’s “Mayday” Update

Depending on yor website, it was either the best of times or the worst of times. Either way, Google’s Mayday updated occured. The update happened between April 28th and May 3rd and business started feeling the effects in their search engine optimization shortly after. The shift happened due to an algorithmic change in Google, a shift Google defends because of what they say is an effort to create the best matches for long tail queries. This forced a lot of sites to reevaluate their keyword assignments and make them more specific and better support thier keyword hub structure. This algorithmic change isn’t going anywhere anytime soon so expect to keep refining your long tail keywords into 2011.
